Bonita Dottai 10/6/1941 - 12/31/2021

"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered Come to Me". Author UnknownBonita (Bonnie) Theresa (Kelly) Dottai went to meet the Lord on December 31, 2021 in Granite Bay, CA after a long battle with Alzheimers that she managed to navigate with much dignity and grace. Born October 6, 1941 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Romayne Kelly, she was the third born child. By age 3 she became the oldest living child due to childhood deaths of her two oldest siblings by tuberculosis. Her family was of modest means, and her mother Romayne early on, became a single parent. Bonnie helped raise her two younger brothers Michael and Patrick and sister Joleen. The family moved to Schenectady, New York in childhood, with Bonnie graduating from Montclair High School in 1959. The family then moved to Lakewood, CA where Bonnie began work at Security Pacific Bank as a teller in Long Beach and met the love of her life, husband Robert (Bob) Dottai who was a loan trainee at the bank. They were married in 1962 and welcomed son Daniel in 1963, followed by Kathryn (Kathy Finney) in 1965. Bonnie and Bob established many, many friends as they moved throughout Southern and Northern California as Bob moved up within the company. In addition to being an amazing stay at home mom when the children were young, she later prized her time working for Deaver & Hanaford, the PR Firm assisting Governor Reagan in his successful run for President. She was a long time member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women through scholarships. She was Chapter XF President for several terms, and cherished her many "sisters" within the organization. She also deeply adored her family, especially her grandchildren and her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. "Bonita" means beautiful, and her name summarized her perfectly because she was beautiful in appearance, but even more beautiful in heart and generosity. Gods gift to Bonnie was her ability to connect deeply with those around her; she was a kind, gentle soul. She is preceded in death by her father Joseph, 1972, brother Michael,1979, niece Heather Moon Hackett, 1991, sister Joleen Hackett, 1997, and beloved mother Romayne, 2015. Bonnie is survived by husband Bob of 59 years, brother Patrick Kelly (Patty), son Daniel (Barbara), daughter Kathy Finney (Kevin), grandchildren Keenan Finney, Konner Finney, Rebekkah Dottai, Makkenah Dottai and many nieces and nephews. Bob spent several years providing the utmost care to Bonnie as her disease progressed. He was thankful to gather support the final two years from Daycation in Rocklin, especially Debbie Wagner, who made a beautiful friendship with Bonnie; and Elim Glen, Granite Bay, where the staff just loved Bonnie and provided outstanding care until her peaceful passing.
