Lincoln resident arrested after resisting police

Gabriel Costa, 65, was arrested for resisting a peace officer, aggravated assault and vandalism on Feb. 7. According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was dispatched to a reported disturbance at a Lincoln residence. Upon the deputy's arrival, the Sheriff's Office said, the deputy was approached by Costa. According to law enforcement officials, Costa had a "combative" posture toward the deputy "and balled up his fists," insisting that the officer use his training to get him to comply. While the officer attempted to detain Costa, the Sheriff's Office said, Costa continued to resist and "temporarily disarmed the deputy from his baton." Placer County Sheriff's Office public information officer Angela Musallam said that citizens resisting Placer County law enforcement officers is not "uncommon." "Our deputies face challenges every single day," Musallam said. "Unfortunately, this is one of the challenges they are met with very frequently. It's people who resist arrest because they don't want to be handcuffed or they're wanting to physically fight our deputies. This happens more frequently than you think." Shortly after Costa was arrested and booked at the South Placer County Jail in Roseville, according to Musallam, he was released on bond. Costa is scheduled to appear on March 21 at the Placer County Superior Court in Roseville where he will face the three charges against him. According to Placer County court officials, the District Attorney's office is still in the process of filing the charges against Costa, and there's a possibility that Costa's court date will be changed.
