Extreme Sidecar duo wins in first appearance at Fast Fridays in Auburn

The Extreme Sidecars made their first of five appearances at Fast Fridays on June 3. To say they were enthusiastically welcomed to the tricky dirt oval at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn would be a huge understatement. The place was packed, and when the sidecars rolled onto the track, fans exploded with applause and cheering. Five teams from Northern California brought their 1000cc three-wheel chariots to Auburn with the sole purpose to win the main event and put on an exciting show for their Fast Fridays faithful fans. And exciting show it was. The teams were Smylie Kinne and Chuck Heider, Lawrence McNutt and Dana Miller, Robert Curry and Lori Curry, Larry Bell and Sammy Tetrault, and Wade Boyd and Eric Lindauer. There were three heat races and the grand finale to close the night. Boyd and Lindauer set the bar high with an excellent win in the first heat. Robert and Lori Curry nailed the second heat. The McNutt/Miller team took the third heat as they headed to the main event. From the inside lane, the team of Boyd and Lindauer put the hammer down for the win in their first appearance at Fast Fridays. Curry/Curry was second, and the team of Kinne/Heider was third. The sidecars are scheduled to appear again July 1 for round two. Billy Janniro struggled a little in weeks one and two but let it be known Friday night he's going to be the man to beat this season. In the scratch program, the 10-time AMA National Champion won his heat race and in a great semifinal placed second behind Gino Manzares. Janniro made clear his ability to win a race in the main event. With a good gate, Janniro got out front and laid into it, never looked back and never let off. He led all the way to the finish line ahead of Manzares. Tyler Warren was third and Russell Green was fourth. In his first appearance this season and one week after getting married, Warren made a dramatic impact by winning the handicap main event. Handicapped on the 30-yard line, Warren won his heat race and was second in his semifinal. Rees Todd was second and Rheten Todd was third. In Division II, Marc Denniston picked up his first main-event win of the season. In a tight race, he edged runner-up John Peters and Dean Newnham, who was third. Proving old guys really do rule, Tim Rott won the Division III main event for the second week in a row. At 62, Rott made it look easy again riding off the 20-yard line. Ray Holt Jr. was second and Sebe Denniston was third. Looks like Rott will be checking out the dirt on the 30-yard line for next week's start. Chase Kangas found a way to keep Charlie Trana at bay, putting together a win in the Youth 250 main event. After finishing second and third to Trana in the first two weeks, Kangas turned the tables. Trana placed second. Darren Armbruster was third. Looks like a great rivalry is developing in the Youth 250 division between Kangas, Trana and Armbruster, which will be exciting to see as the season progresses. Wesley Rearick won the Youth 150 main event after two third-place finishes in weeks one and two. Rearick finished ahead of his little brother, Riley Rearick, who was second. Joyce Eller was third.
