Placer County certifies June Primary election results

The Placer County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar of Voters office certified its election results from the June Primary last week. The election featured state and federal legislative primaries along with local county offices and drew 128,152 voters in Placer County, which is 46.44 percent of its registered voters. In the race for Placer County Sheriff-Coroner-Marshal, Acting Sheriff (formerly Undersheriff) Wayne Woo received 63.55 percent of the votes (71,191) and will begin his term in 2023. Challenger Administrative Sergeant Brandon Bean received 36.45 percent of votes (40,826). In the race for Placer County Assessor, incumbent Matt Maynard won the seat, receiving 66.39 percent of the votes (69,406). Challenger Sam Sherrod received 33.61 percent of votes (35,129). Incumbent Ryan Ronco won the race for Placer County Clerk Recorder Registrar of Voters. Ronco received 76.54 percent of the votes (83,360) and challenger Amanda Cofran received 23.55 percent of votes (25,672). Ronco will begin his new term in 2023. A number of Placer County seats went unopposed in the primary, and after receiving 100 percent of votes in their categories, Placer County Superintendent of Schools Gayle Garbolino-Mojica, Placer Auditor-Controller Andrew C. Sisk, Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire and Placer County Treasurer-Tax Collector Tristan Butcher will start their next terms in 2023. In seats representing South Placer County, Bonnie Gore ran unopposed in the 1st District of the Placer County Board of Supervisors and received 100 percent of the votes (17,281 votes). She will begin her new term in 2023. In the Board of Supervisors' 2nd District, Shanti Landon (44.43 percent) and Scott Alvord (30.36 percent) received the most votes and will face off on the November ballot. Paul Joiner trailed close behind Alvord, receiving 25.21 percent of the votes. Current District 2 Supervisor Robert Weygandt is retiring. The march toward the November election is already underway for the Clerk-Recorder-Registrar office. The first date for candidates to file to be on the November ballot is Monday, July 18.
