Record 157 softball teams to compete at the 22nd annual Western National Championships

The 2022 Western National Championships is the largest Senior Qualifying softball tournament in California, attracting 157 teams from 10 states, including Texas, Idaho, Hawaii and Alaska. Men's divisions ranging from ages 40 to 85 and women's divisions ranging from ages 40 to 55 will compete. The tournament will begin with the senior statesmen of the sports – age divisions 65-85, playing Tuesday through July 28. The second session, Men's 40 to 60 and women's 40 to 55 divisions, will play July 29 to July 31. Games will be played at Sacramento Softball Complex, Foskett Regional Park in Lincoln, Hal Bartholomew Sports Park in Elk Grove, and Mahany Park and Maidu Regional Park in Roseville. The 157 teams, and more than 2,500 players, competing in the Western National Championships will infuse more than $12 million into the Placer and Sacramento economies over the course of the tournament. Teams play in the Western National Championships to both qualify for the World Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada from Sept. 15 to Oct. 2 and the divisional champions play against the champions of the Eastern National Championships in Virginia during the World Championships. The World Championships is the largest softball tournament in the country, drawing 650 teams from the United States, Canada and a number of international co-ed teams. The winners in each division in Sacramento are invited to the most prestigious tournament in the country, the Tournament of Champions in Florida in February 2023. More than 1.5-million men and women over 40 years old play senior softball in the United States today.
