Snow in Roseville? White stuff stuns locals

In some places, it was enough to make a snowball out of."I'll tell you when I went out this morning the kids down the street were screaming," said Carolyn Johnson of Granite Bay. She shot pictures (at left) of snow covering the Granite Bay Golf Course. "I've lived here 28 years and I've never seen snow!" she said. "It's very fun. But I'm worried that my plants are freezing."Roseville's Harry Crabb, who compiled weather statistics for years for The Press Tribune, said he believed the last time actual snow fell in Roseville was 1973."It wasn't enough to go skiing on, but it covered the lawns and the kids were out playing.Fire Marshal Dennis Mathisen and Police Spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said there were no snow-related incidents reported. Roseville Electric Spokeswoman Vonette McCauley also said the city-owned utility had no problems."The streets have been pretty smooth; there've been no more problems than any other rain-day type thing," Mathisen said.Roseville and Granite Bay's schools were open, though the white stuff was causing more problems further up the hill. Sierra College spokeswoman Sue Michaels said the Nevada County and Truckee campuses of the school were closed, but Rocklin was open.A gas smell temporarily emptied the school's Roseville Gateway campus, but it was not snow-related, said Michaels.Even on the valley floor, there were wide disparities in the amount of snow that fell.In Rocklin, Teira Taylor had enough in front of her home to make a snowman.
