9 year old creates successful Chicken Waddle Farm

There have always been different opinions about where good business ideas derive from. Some would say embrace the inspiration, grasp and hold the conscious notion, and when possible, take that conception and run with it. This is how Flora Moore, a 9-year-old fourth-grader, came up with an idea that blossomed into a thriving business. Raised in the country, Flora began to have a personal connection with her surroundings early in life. When she was 6, her parents let her manage the well-being of five baby chicks. The chickies rapidly grew, and to Flora's delight, after receiving a rooster as a gift, the chickens soon after began to produce so many eggs that Flora began to store them throughout the barn and even in the house in boxes and containers. She would give them away to friends and neighbors. One day Flora asked her mom, "Why don't we sell some?" and said it would be fun to put the eggs in pink cartons. Her parents thought that was a brilliant idea and when they presented Flora with a pink egg carton, she knew this was going to be a fun venture and she immediately created the logo. When asked how she came up with the name, Chicken Waddle Farm, she answered, "I live on a farm and as you might not know, chickens do not walk; they waddle." Hence, the name Chicken Waddle Farm became the name of this child's enterprise. Flora presents beautiful organic eggs from more than 300 free-range chickens. The chickens will never be eaten, Flora said, because they are her friends. Saving for her college fund, Flora's business is already deemed to be quite a success. She ended our interview by saying, "I want to be an inspiration to other kids and put smiles on people's faces."
