Youth football programs meet Saturday for backyard brawl

The varsity, junior varsity and freshmen football games between Folsom and Oak Ridge this week aren't the only football games between the schools. The youth football programs, the Jr. Bulldogs and the Jr. Trojans, will meet Saturday at Oak Ridge High for the "Battle of the County Line," an event sponsored by Vince Mini's House of Pain, a local gym in the area. Gabe Jackson, an assistant coach with the Folsom Peewee team, felt this rivalry needed something to play for and named the event. Each winning team Saturday will receive a plaque. The Jr. Peewees play at 10 a.m., followed by the Peewees at noon, the Jr. Midgets at 2 p.m. and the Midgets and 4 p.m. These teams played each other in a non-league game that doesn't count in the standings earlier this season. Folsom Jr. Peewees won, 20-12, the Oak Ridge Peewees came out on top, 14-6, while Folsom's Jr. Peewees (36-16) and Midgets (32-6) also won their respective games. Folsom's Peewees, Jr. Midgets and Midget teams along with Oak Ridge's Jr. Peewee and Midget teams enter Saturday's games with 2-0 records, while the Folsom Jr. Peewees and the Oak Ridge Peewee and Jr. Midget teams are 1-1 on the season.
