100 years of FHS celebrated at Folsom History Museum

It was the second week of October in 1922 that Folsom High School welcomed its inaugural freshman class. As today's community celebrates the school's 100-year anniversary, the Folsom History Museum has officially opened a temporary exhibit dedicated to the milestone that residents will not want to miss. Titled, "Go Bulldogs! 100 Years of Folsom High," the exhibit focuses on the high school experience and the 100th year of Folsom High School's first incoming freshman class. The exhibit opened to the public last Friday and will run for the entire year of this centennial celebration. The exhibit showcases the high school experience through areas of focus such as sports, academics, culture and community involvement. This exhibition is a reflection of the new community-focused mission and vision that Folsom History has adopted this past year. "This exhibition was a great chance for us to work with Folsom High School teachers and officials, current students at Folsom High School and many Folsom High alumni," said Rita Mukherjee Hoffstadt, executive director of Folsom History. "By compiling historical documents, yearbook pictures, memorabilia and individual stories of those who have attended over the year, we were able to create a fun engaging experience for visitors of all ages. It's really great how many people contributed their time and effort to this exhibition," said David Mues, exhibit and program developer. "This truly is a project of the whole community." The exhibit highlights how high school has changed and stayed the same over the years. Visitors can explore the evolution of academics, sports, clubs and activities over the years. Learn about the first classes that were held by Folsom High School, see photos of the first graduating class and make a class schedule with some current and past teachers. View some old sports uniforms, letterman's jackets and fun hairdos of the past. In the social area, take a selfie and relive your prom as you see new and old gowns on display. The exhibit is made possible through support of the Folsom High staff and alumni, Folsom History, the Folsom community and private donors. Wednesday evening, the celebration of Folsom High School's 100 year anniversary continued at the annual Homecoming Parade and rally in Historic Folsom where past alumni and administrators were also recognized.
