Lincoln artists shine in Open Studios Tour

The Placer Artists Tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 11, 12 and 13 is free. Many of the artists will follow with an Encore weekend on Nov. 18, 19 and 20. The tour is mapped into five regions: Lincoln; Roseville-Rocklin; Granite Bay; Loomis-Penryn-Newcastle; and Auburn and Meadow Vista-Colfax. A colorful map in the Placer Artists Tour Guide makes it easy to navigate the neighborhoods and the back roads where some of these studios are tucked away. Twelve Lincoln artists are part of the 29th year of the tour, which features more than 100 artists, six art galleries, five art schools and two music schools with a wide diversity of mediums including painting, sculpture, jewelry, metal work, pysanky, photography ,digital imaging, textiles and encaustic. Four of the Lincoln artists this year are new to the tour. Tamsen Armstrong paints in oils, strong true color and a deep respect for the subject. Lynn Chapman, also an oil painter, paints 'the color and light in the world around me'. She enjoys painting 'en plein air' and has developed a realistic impressionistic style to capture her vision. Susan Pine is a visual artist, layering gesso and acrylic paint to activate the surface and also creates jewelry and hair accessories, using silver, copper and brass. Caillin Wailani, an oil painter, also works in ceramic and is a sculptor. Her work, sometimes metaphorical, is also witty and whimsical. This exhibit includes a piece from each tour artist in the Lincoln region, along with Sun City Lincoln Hills Ceramic Arts Group members and Rockstar Music Academy artists. The Art League of Lincoln is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. The Art League of Lincoln will host four artists during both tour weekends:Tamsen Armstrong, Bruce Ross, Ain Veske and Ana Veske. Rockstar Music Academy will also host three tour artists, Robert Chaponot (photography and acrylics the first weekend) and Catherine High (jewelry) and Susan Pine on both weekends. The Placer Artists Tour preview show, "Taste of the Tour" will be held at Blue Line Arts in Roseville. The show will be on exhibit from Nov. 4 through 20, with the "Taste of the Tour" Reception at Blue Line Arts from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 5.
