Roseville Police Department says community can help by being aware

Our local law enforcement makes an impact daily on everyone's lives, whether it be through community interaction or keeping residents safe. Officer Tyler Cantley of the Roseville Police Department knows and values the "true impact" he leaves on his community. It is the best part of the job for him. "We are not going to save the world," Cantley said, "But in a victim's eyes, we may have saved their world by stopping an abusive relationship during a domestic violence situation or taking an armed and dangerous suspect into custody who is a clear threat to the community or by saving a small child from drowning." The Roseville Police Department's public information officer Rob Baquera said that larceny is the most common crime for the department, which is "theft as the unlawful taking, carrying, leading or riding away of property from the possession or constructive possession of another," he said. "Overall, property crimes are our most common crime in Roseville. From 2020 to 2021, we saw a 7-percent decrease in property crimes." According to the Roseville Police Department's Quarterly Workload Report for July through September, the department has received 39,105 calls in its Support Division, which means there were more than 400 calls per day. In the Operations Division, there were a total of 17,814 police incidents that led to 889 arrests. Despite these numbers, "sometimes there is not a happy ending," said Cantley, "We have to do our best to deal with the situation and move on from it, emotionally, physically and psychologically." Cantley said that public support helps through tough times. Baquera said that one of the best ways the community can help the department is by being vigilant and reporting suspicious activity. "If you see illegal activity happening, don't intervene," Baquera said, "But pay attention to the suspect, their vehicle and any possible information that would help law enforcement track them down."
