Colfax Council welcomes familiar face, selects Burruss for second mayoral term

The Colfax City Council saw minimal change Wednesday night as it swore in its newly elected officials. Kim Douglass, who served on the council from 2012-20, and incumbents Trinity Burruss and Sean Lomen accepted their positions on the council. Colfax City Clerk Marguerite Bailey performed the Oath of Office. Bailey also recognized outgoing Councilmember Joe Fatula on behalf of Colfax for his service on the council from 2018-22. "His hard work and attention to detail has been evident in many city projects," Bailey said of Fatula. "His diligent and dedicated work ethic are duly noted." Following the oath, Mayor Pro Tem Marnie Mendoza made a motion to appoint Burruss as mayor and herself as mayor pro tem for a second consecutive term. "I feel that this year we have had effective, aggressive and impressive leadership in the face of adversity," Mendoza said. "I know it is my turn to rotate into the mayorship, but I think what is best for Colfax is for us to maintain the current leadership in the year of 2023." Councilmember David Ackerman agreed with Mendoza's statement and provided a second to the motion. Douglass said he was fine with the continued leadership as long as there is rotation for 2024. Mendoza confirmed her motion was just a suggestion for 2023 based on committees and work being done county-wide. The council approved the motion in a 4-0 vote. Burruss abstained.
