Auburn City Fire brings Santa to local neighborhoods

Santa Claus delighted the young and old throughout the streets of Auburn neighborhoods this week, thanks to the efforts of the Auburn City Fire Department. Captain Lucas Rogers has been working with former Councilman Matt Spokely on this event for nine years. Spokely helped lead the charge in bringing this beloved Santa visit to Auburn residents. He recently concluded his second term on the Auburn City Council. "Doing this has just been a pleasure and a great experience," Spokely said. "Seeing the kids come out and enjoy a little Christmas cheer has just been awesome." Spokely said the fire department was on board the minute he presented the idea. He said they are so gracious and always looking for ways to make the event even better. "It's really cool when the kids come out," Rogers said. "It's a special time of year when they see Santa they light up." Spokely was the special guest who joined Santa and firefighters Wednesday night, and Mayor Alice Dowdin Calvillo joined Santa for the second night driving through the neighborhood.
