1 killed in Thursday house fire in Auburn

The Placer Hills Fire Protection District confirmed one fatality following a residential fire in the 15500 block of Ponderosa Lane in Auburn on Thursday morning. Firefighters responded at 8:14 a.m. and found the two-story, single-family residence fully involved in active fire. Crews initiated a fire attack and rescued one individual from the residence, but the individual was pronounced deceased. According to the Placer Hills District, no other individuals were found during the search of the residence, but it is believed an additional person was present at the time of the fire. The Placer Hills District reported the fire was controlled at noon and the home was considered a total loss. Placer Hills Fire confirmed there were no injuries sustained by first responders. Responding agencies also included Auburn City Fire, CAL FIRE/Placer County Fire Department, Higgins Fire Department, Penryn Fire Department, South Placer Fire Department, Sac Metro Fire, American Medical Response and the Placer County Sheriff's Office. Local and state fire and law enforcement officials are investigating the cause and origin.
