Rhinos basketball and soccer players earn All-PVL honors

The 2022-23 winter sports season is now behind us and All-League awards and honors have been announced for teams in the Pioneer Valley League. Twelve Bridges High had many athletes earn All-League with junior Jacob Gilchrist being named the Most Valuable Player for boys' basketball. Gilchrist helped lead the Raging Rhinos to a 21-9 record, a playoff win and a 12-2 record in the Pioneer Valley League. "It is extremely exciting to have received recognition for MVP honors," Gilchrist said. "I feel like I have learned what it takes to be the best player on the floor and embracing more of a leadership role on the team. I'd like to thank Coach Robert Ash for giving me the opportunity to play for him and the Twelve Bridges Raging Rhinos this past year." James Sweet and Jonah Gilchrist earned First-Team honors for basketball while Kellen Colyer and Kellen Phulps were on the Second-Team. In girls' soccer, five Lady Rhinos were awarded with First-Team honors: Kelsey Bartlett, Josephine Young, Kelsey Kurland, Stella Tamayo and Chloe Van Winkle. Van Winkle led the team in goals with 16 while Bartlett led in assists with 10. "It is super exciting to receive this achievement. I put in a lot of work on and off the field," Van Winkle said. "But it would not be possible to achieve this without my teammates and Coach Victor Quiroz. From the beginning to the end of the season, I think I've improved the most in my leadership role. Being the first graduating class, I think that it's important to establish good leadership both on and off the field." Three Rhinos earned Second-Team honors: Haley Bartlett, Breena Ludlow and Aurora Perry. For boys' soccer, six Rhinos earned All-League, including three on the First-Team and three on the Second-Team. Evan Lynch, Tyler Novelo and Elijah Noll were on the First-Team while Benjamin Bridges, Max Rask and AJ Placencia earned Second-Team. The girls' soccer team finished with a 14-6-2 record and a playoff win while the boys went 9-9-2 in their first varsity season.
