Woman pushing car killed by passing vehicle

A 34-year-old Roseville woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle on the Foothills Boulevard overpass Monday evening.Dawn Rachael Nelson was hit by a northbound 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee as she was pushing a vehicle on the Foothills Boulevard overpass, said Dee Dee Gunther, Roseville police spokeswoman. Nelson was a passenger in a 1990 Nissan Maxima, Gunther said, that apparently ran out of gas on the overpass."Ms. Nelson and two other passengers were pushing the Nissan," Gunther said. "When the other vehicle came up from behind, hitting her."The Jeep Grand Cherokee was driven by a 17-year-old male from Antelope, whose name is not being released because he is a minor. Gunther said speed is not a factor in the collision.Gunther said that police and fire/rescue personnel responded to the scene at around 7:08 p.m. Nelson was transported by ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, Gunther said.The northbound lanes of the overpass were closed for approximately five hours while investigators examined the scene, Gunther said.According to a Roseville Police Department press release, the collision is being investigated by the Roseville Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team.Brad Smith can be reached at brads@goldcountrymedia.com.
