Lincoln Hills Senior Softball League donates to local high school athletic programs

The Lincoln Hills Senior Softball League (LHSSL) has generously given back to the community by donating $1,000 to Phoenix High School for their new co-ed softball program, along with $500, to Lincoln and Twelve Bridges High schools for their girls' athletic departments. "The LHSSL has a long tradition of supporting local high school sports with donation of monies, sports equipment and assisting local graduating seniors with scholarships dating back to 2004," said Heidi Mazzola, the Lincoln Hills Senior Softball League second vice-president. "We enjoy seeing local youth benefit from the donations we provide." According to Mazzola, the donations are a net proceed from hot dog sales at Del Webb Field during summer league games. The league donates what they earn and it made $2,000 in the 2022 summer season. The Lincoln Hills Senior Softball League typically has four Hot Dog Day events throughout the summer. "Twelve Bridges softball is extremely grateful for the donation from LHSSL," said Twelve Bridges High School softball coach Betty Zamora. "We are still a new program getting off the ground and we are appreciative of any donations. It's amazing that Lincoln Hills softball is giving back to their own sport to help build the softball programs in our community. Lincoln is extremely lucky to have them. I hope our girls can go watch one of their games and they can come watch one of ours. We'd love to go cheer them on." The Lincoln Hills Senior Softball League was set to have its first Hot Dog Day event for the 2023 season on opening day Wednesday, after press time, with the first pitch at 8 a.m. Opening day included four regular season games throughout the day and a women's exhibition game at 11 a.m. "It's important to give back to the community in which one lives as it leads to a supportive and positive environment where people can thrive," Mazzola said. "By supporting local high school athletica, we can make a positive impact on youth in our community, especially the underserved."
