Rotary Club of Auburn helps restore local parks

Focusing on improving Auburn Area Recreation and Parks District facilities, the Rotary Club of Auburn participated in Rotarians at Work Day this month. The two-day work project included 40 Rotarians and their family members, including children. The Placer High School Interact Club also lended its efforts. The group worked on projects which improved ARD's Recreation Park, Ashley Dog Park at Ashford Park and the Canyon View Community Center. At the Ashley Dog Park, volunteers rebuilt a failing shade structure and restained and painted the remaining two shade structures. At Recreation Park, Rotarians planted 20 new trees throughout the park and replaced the safety bark in the play area and exercise area near the bocce ball courts. According to a Rotary release, ARD lost 15 trees in this winter's storms, a loss that exceeded what ARD could handle with its own manpower and budget. "Rotary was happy to assist with this sustaining endeavor for the Auburn Recreation District and Auburn community," the Rotary news release stated. Rotarians also rehabbed the sign for the Canyon View Community Center. "The sign was near the point of no return in its poor condition," the Rotary release stated. "But Rotary President Scott Christensen was determined to bring it back to life and that he did. The sign looks brand new again and is again worthy of the heavily used community space."
