Nye and Macneil named MVP's for Capital Valley Conference

The Capital Valley Conference has released its All-League rosters and Most Valuable Players for the spring 2023 sports season and a number of athletes from Woodcreek and Roseville High Schools received honors for their performance. In baseball, Woodcreek Timberwolves junior Austin Nye was named the Most Valuable Player and finished the season with a perfect 5-0 record on the mound and a 1.16 earned run average with 71 strikeouts. "Receiving the conference MVP my junior year really meant a lot to me, really putting into perspective all of the work I put in the offseason to prepare for this high school season," Nye said. "It's such an honor to be chosen and recognized from the coaches around the CVC. This gives me the determination to work even harder this offseason and come back next year to try and win the award for my senior year." Joining Nye were Ethan Louie who was named the Offensive Player of the Year, John Handy who was named the Defensive Player of the Year, Dylan Green, Conner Barth and Isaac Hawthrone. Four Roseville Tigers earned All-League including: Kyle Pettersen, Dylan Schmitt, Brady Ranallo and Ethan LaBlue. Woodcreek High sophomore pitcher Maryn Macneil led the Lady Timberwolves softball team to a league title and went 7-4 on the mound with a 2.04 earned run average to win the Most Valuable Player award. Macneil was joined by Maliyah Lawson, Chloe Preuss, Sophie Pelzman and Kaylee Kolhoff. For Roseville High, Bella Tonso, Jennavieve Goldsworth and Karissa Avila all received All-League honors. In boys' golf, Roseville High's Grant Burback was named the Most Valuable Player while Rylan Kerr and Luke Sonne also made the list for the Tigers. Three Timberwolves also earned All-League including Chase Yukawa, Everest Williams and Jackson Blakemore. Three members of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II champion Timberwolves boys' volleyball team made All-League including Ben Cohen, Andrew Taylor and Jaden Schauer. Gannon Conners earned All-League for the Tigers. Five Woodcreek High boys' tennis players received All-League including: Marco Lake, Neil Jamwal, Ryan Engelke, Ryan Zuehlke and Michael Pereira-Oh. Nathan Sheppard made the list for Roseville High. In girls' swimming and diving, six Tigers earned All-League: Claire Sheidenberger, Makena Brock, Lillian Wolfinger, Tessa Breitbart, Lauren Nielsen and Mehana Ward. For Woodcreek High, four girls made the list including Sofia Paez, Hailey Hensley, Raegan Chavez and Lauren Costa. On the boys' side, five Timberwolves made the All-League list which include: Isaak Adams, Jeff Center, Shane Carter, Evan Fields and Cooper Swayne. Five Tigers also received All-League including: Keaton Boatwright, Colin Loventhal, Ethan Lyman, Matthias Howard and Almas Ualkhanov. The Timberwolves also had many selections in track and field. For the boys: Josiah DeBerry, David Winston, Isaac Earls, Trent Herbert, Joshua Gonzales, Tyler Henderson, Josiah Melendez, Connor Rojas, Derek Barnjart, Jarred Jackson, Jacob Honey, Devin Pringle, Jacob Bowie, Anthony Cunha and Ethan Jacobsen all earned All-League. On the girls' side, the Timberwolves also had a number of athletes including: Alanna Laverty, Mia McSweeney, Liberty Zamudio, Hannah Luster, Angela Gladysh, Allison Canchola, Charlotte Henderson, Ryan Nair, Arianna McCall and Lindsay Steinke. For the Tigers, Kyley Hunter received All-League for the girls while Alexander Vigil, Joel Bradley, Connor Cantwell and Ryker Davis earned All-League for the boys.
