Auburn Little League All-Stars put up fight at District 11 tournaments

Little League district tournaments have wrapped up and all-star teams have advanced to section tournaments in most divisions. While the Auburn seniors are the only local team left standing, several other all-star teams had strong showings. Here is how each age group fared: 10U All-Stars: Auburn's 10U All-Stars were the hosts of the District 11 Tournament at Beggs Field and used the homefield advantage to begin play, defeating Lincoln 8-3 on June 28. Unfortunately for Auburn, its tournament run would be short-lived, as it fell to Bear River 13-3 and Rocklin 5-4. 11U All-Stars: The Auburn 11U All-Stars made a run to the District 11 championship game at Tri-City in Rocklin, battling out of the consolation bracket. After opening the tournament with a 17-1 victory over Grass Valley on July 1, Auburn fell to Tri-City 14-11. With its back against the wall, Auburn won three consecutive games, run-ruling Sierra Foothills and Rocklin before getting revenge on Tri-City 10-6 in the consolation final. Lincoln put a stop to Auburn's winning ways in the championship Friday night with an 8-2 victory, clinching the 11U championship for a second consecutive season. 12U All-Stars: Auburn's 12U All-Stars won their first two games against Grass Valley and Sierra Foothills. Auburn's fortunes turned in game three, however, as host Lincoln pulled ahead early and cruised to a 10-0 victory. The defeat was too much for Auburn to overcome in its consolation bracket matchup with Mid-Placer, as it bowed out with a 12-2 loss. Juniors: Auburn's Junior All-Stars had a short-lived tournament at Grass Valley, losing to Rocklin and Lincoln.
