Trojans finish summer undefeated at Oregon State

Oak Ridge's girls' varsity basketball program finished off their spring schedule in spectacular fashion, by going 7-0 and winning all seven games they played at the Oregon State team camp. The girls arrived home June 30th all smiles from the camp that they won even without two projected starters: point guard Sofia Williams and post player Kendra Alameda, making the feat even more special. "It was good for us," Oak Ridge coach Steve White said. "We had hoped to finish the summer on a high note and we did that. It was the goal to do well after a somewhat disappointing performance at Tahoe. It's the first time I didn't get super upset at us for a lack of effort." White said the team did a good job sharing the ball and moving around on offense and defense, and in a sense, playing together as a team. The players as a whole played more consistently, and White said if they could continue to do that, it would make his job and the players' jobs much easier. "If the girls consistently played like the played at Oregon State, I would know what I would get from them and it would make subbing so much easier," White said. "The girls played consistently well all week and played team basketball." With Williams and Alameda out, it gave all players more playing time in all situations, which was a plus for everybody. "At different times, we had different people playing well and they all had their moments. Liv, Ava and Jess were probably the most consistent, but then we had moments when Trisha George got some steals and if she were able to get steals like that more consistently, that would be great. Ava Schraeder for a time came in and was a rebounding machine. If she could do that all the time, that would be great. Hailey Harris and Audrey Hernandez, at times, made good moves to the basket, passing out and rebounding. Ella Cottrell attacked the basket and made some athletic layups and played good defense and made some steals. Addison Hunt, she's at her best when she's just playing steady basketball, using her basketball IQ to her advantage and when she shares her knowledge with the team. "If all these girls could do the things that they did at Oregon State more consistently, it makes everyone's job easier and the kids would know their roles." All in all, it was a great week of team building and a great way to end the team's summer together. "The girls came together and I think they realized what they're capable of and how good they could be if they could just add consistency to their games," White said.
