Lincoln residents 'Get the Scoop' from Congressman Kiley

Kevin Kiley's constituents were invited Monday to enjoy ice cream at Leatherby's and "Get the Scoop," as the event was punnily named, on what the Congressman has been up to. Kiley greeted Lincoln residents in attendance and walked around the tables having lighthearted conversations. Many guests were excited to see Kiley, some of whom met him in person for the first time. Kiley's inspiration for hosting the event at Leatherby's is because it was one of his favorite places to visit growing up. However, he frequented the location in Citrus Heights since the Lincoln location only opened last year, according to a previous Gold Mountain News article. He reminisced growing up in the greater Sacramento area and how he used to visit the Citrus Heights Leatherby's with his mom and what he liked to call his "adoptive grandma," a woman who worked with his mom. They got together for ice cream once a month. "I want to always be here in the district as much as I can," Kiley said, adding he wants to do more of these events in the community. "It gives us an informal opportunity to chat and I can get a sense of how I can better represent you." Kiley alerted the community to numerous efforts he is making. He recognized that one concern of the community is the former Titan 1A missile site at 401 Oak Tree Lane in Lincoln. It operated from 1962-65. The site is contaminated with the degreasing solvent trichloroethylene (TCE) used for cleaning rocket and aviation parts, benzene, lead and xylenes, according to the California Water Boards, State Water Resources Control Board and Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board's public notice from November 2022. "We've been working on this very closely. The good news is, we've succeeded in getting some language that specifically addresses the missile site," Kiley reassured guests. "We have no reason to believe there is no immediate risks to the community, but we are keeping a close eye on it." According to an article on Kiley's website, he requested language to be included in this year's annual Department of Defense Appropriations Bill and Report that "singles out" the missile site, saying, "The language will also help ensure the USACE is transparent and accountable with Lincoln-area residents regarding the site and progress on the ongoing plan to clean contaminants." The specific language in the Department of Defense Appropriations Bill and Report is as follows: "The Committee urges the Department of Defense and Army Corps Engineers to complete assessments and inspections of the remaining sites, such as the Lincoln Titan 1 Missile Silo Complex, with all deliberate speed, and in the interests if transparency to share the results and any remediation recommendations with the public." Kiley also addressed concerns with organized theft in the community. There have been numerous instances of theft in the area, including Folsom, Roseville and Rocklin, according to previous Gold Mountain News articles. "There's a lot we do to crack down on them," Kiley said. "I do have a couple bills meant to take on organized theft." He emphasized the importance of the community recognizing law enforcement and first responders to give them the "support they deserve."
