Folsom man arrested following armed road rage incident

A Folsom man was arrested Aug. 2 in relation to a road rage incident involving a firearm. Folsom Police officers responded to the area of Riley and Sutter streets for a report of an individual pointing a firearm at an occupied vehicle during a road rage incident on July 16. According to Folsom Police, the incident was caught on city traffic cameras and the suspect vehicle was identified. FPD confirmed Special Investigations Unit detectives identified the suspect as Kevin Michael Smithson, 41. Detectives served a search warrant in the 100 block of McCormick Court last Wednesday with assistance from FPD SWAT. The firearm was determined to be a paintball gun and was recovered from the back seat of the vehicle identified in the road rage incident. According to the police department, firearms, defined as assault rifles by California law, were also found in the residence. Smithson was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on multiple firearm charges. No in-custody information could be located for Smithson.
