Downtown Auburn gallery hosts children's art show

A Downtown Auburn gallery is giving budding young artists the chance to shine this month as they host a Children's Summer Art Show. For the Love of Art Gallery, which features local artwork, has cleared space for student artists. "This is just a neat way for kids to have the experience of showing their art in a gallery," said Lori Humphrey, gallery co-owner. "I think this is just a positive way to get their art seen, other than by mom and dad and other classmates." Children were able to put a price tag on their creations. Humphrey said the children would receive 100 percent of their proceeds. And the art is selling. Humphrey said an 11-year-old boy's welding piece of a rattlesnake sold to a woman who was traveling in the area as a memento from her trip. "The little boy was so proud when he brought this piece in," Humphrey said. "Selling this art is just great positive reinforcement for the children." Humphrey, who always has art projects available to children who visit her gallery, said she hopes the young artists are inspired by this event. "I think it's important encouragement for children, for them to be able to say, 'Wow, come see my art hanging in a professional gallery,' " she said. For the Love of Art Gallery is hosting a reception for the child artists from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 20. The community is invited to attend and show support for the children to encourage their creativity. For the Love of Art Gallery opened in February in the Gold Country Mall at 882 Lincoln Way. The gallery is a cooperative featuring 20 local artists and one guest artist a month. "Some of these artists have never shown in a gallery before," Humphrey said about the space. "The artists are responsible for keeping their space current; art rotates about every three months." All of the artists are exclusive to the gallery in Auburn, so you won't see their art in multiple spaces around town, Humphrey said. Humphrey's business partner, Bill Wages, has a space at 852 Lincoln Way at a business called For the Love of Photography. His business specializes in framing and print work.
