Roseville's Kristin Brown proceeds in 'The Voice'

24-year-old Roseville local Kristin Brown has made it through the first round of the hit music competition television series "The Voice" after her blind audition aired Sept. 25 on NBC. Brown sang her own rendition of "Blown Away" by Carrie Underwood for her blind audition and received seat turns from judges Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire. Judge John Legend gave props to Brown's performance and said, "You're very fortunate to have these ladies fighting over you." After her performance, Brown didn't hesitate to show her pride in her hometown, saying, "I'm from this little town called Roseville in California." Brown started her musical journey by forming a band at 13 years old with friends from vocal training school Auburn Road. "From the time I was a little girl, country music has had a huge hold on my heart," Brown said on her website. "From singing on the back of my dad's bass boat to traveling the country performing in my best pair of boots, I've loved every second of being in the country music family." McEntire told Brown after her audition, "Love the song and you did it justice." However, Stefani also wanted Brown on her team, but knowing McEntire's specialty in country music, she knew it was going to be difficult to convince her. "This is very difficult since Reba is the queen, so it's hard to fight against her but I'm going to fight right now," Stefani said. "Honestly, I really did love your performance, you're really a diamond in the rough. To be able to share with you everything I've ever learned, it's my dream. I've done all the stuff that you want to do, I want to mother you, okay?" After McEntire and Stefani pitched their reasons for being the best pick for coach, Brown ultimately chose Stefani, to Stefani's surprise as she began exclaiming excitedly, "What? What? You're crazy!" McEntire intends to, hopefully, steal Brown later down the competition, so she warned Stefani, "You better behave!" Brown reacted to moving onto the next round in an Instagram post, saying, "WOW!! My head is dizzy, my heart is full, and y'all have BLOWN ME AWAY with love."
