Auburn Symphony goes sorcery for second concert of season

Invoke The Muses! The Auburn Symphony soars into its second concert of the season this weekend, Oct. 7 and 8, with Masterworks I: Symphonic Sorcery. The symphony will perform some of its favorite pieces from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Frozen and The Wizard of Oz, as well as other magical classics, including Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird and Paul Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice. French composer Paul Dukas (Oct. 1, 1865-May 17, 1935) was also the conductor of the first performance of his symphonic poem, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, on May 18, 1897, in Paris. It is the most celebrated of all of Dukas' compositions. One of the best known being its place in Walt Disney's animated film, Fantasia. Dukas based his symphonic poem on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's poem, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, written in 1797. In Masterworks I: Symphonic Sorcery, the Auburn Symphony will awaken the mystifying magic of this piece, as well as many other remarkable works – some familiar favorites and some embraceable new.
