Fentanyl dealer convicted in death of Auburn woman

Aaron Kurtis Dare, 25, of Fair Oaks was convicted of second-degree murder Wednesday in relation to an Aug. 31, 2022, fentanyl death of a 25-year-old Auburn woman. Dare was arrested Sept. 6, 2022, and was found with $1,200 worth of fentanyl, evidence of drug sales and a loaded revolver. Dare was charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of a controlled substance, being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. In October 2022, the Placer County District Attorney's Office amended the charges to include murder as the investigation revealed Dare's alleged sale of fentanyl to the victim, whose identity is withheld, was linked to her death. According to the Placer County District Attorney's Office, the conviction was secured by its Special Prosecutions Unit with support from the Placer Special Investigations Unit detective from the Placer County Sheriff's Office. Dare will be sentenced at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, in Placer County Superior Court, Dept. 3, at the Historic Courthouse in Auburn. According to the DA's Office, Dare is the second fentanyl dealer convicted of murder in Placer County.
