Man arrested for firearm warrant following incident at Folsom school

A Folsom man was arrested Monday after reportedly acting strangely in the office of Blanche Sprentz Elementary School. In a letter to parents, Blanche Sprentz Elementary School Principal Jenna Schuette confirmed a concerned neighbor alerted the school of a man recording the school playground from outside the locked school gate at Ed Mitchell Park. When the individual came into the front office and refused to cooperate with staff, law enforcement was contacted. Folsom Police confirmed school employees reported a man was in the front office asking odd questions and had been taking pictures of the school before entering. The individual was identified as Peining Wang, 62. The police department confirmed officers recognized Wang from prior similar incidents. Folsom officers learned Wang had a warrant for possession of an assault weapon. According to Folsom PD, the warrant charge was due to a firearm Wang turned in to the police department months earlier, which was determined to be an illegal weapon. Wang was arrested for his warrant and booked into the Sacramento County Jail. According to online custody information, Wang was released from custody the same day. "Wang was not armed and did not commit any other crime while on campus," the police department reported. Schuette confirmed all students were safe in their classrooms during the incident. Schuette also confirmed the school was already scheduled to facilitate two safety drills this week, including fire and lockdown drills. "The safety of your students and our staff are always our first priority," Schuette stated in the letter. Folsom PD confirmed detectives and school resource officers are monitoring the case and working with Folsom Cordova Unified School District staff to ensure a safe and distraction-free environment for Folsom students.
