Volunteers sought for Canyon Keepers

State Parks is recruiting new volunteers for the 2024 season. If you love the magnificent American River Canyons, you could share your appreciation with visitors as a volunteer in the Auburn State Recreation Area. As a member of Canyon Keepers, you could lead hikes, conduct research and work on interpretive displays, maintain trails and help children learn about the flora, fauna, history and traditional native culture in the local canyons. If you have a serviceable horse, you could serve on Mounted Assistance Unit patrols. State Parks plans to lead volunteer training sessions in March. The training will educate new volunteers on rules, regulations, safety procedures and the many recreational opportunities within the Auburn State Recreation Area. It will prepare volunteers to assist the many thousands of visitors who come to ASRA every year. The volunteers also serve as extra eyes and ears for State Parks rangers and staff to maintain safety and environmental protection within the vast natural area.
