Georgeson's 2 goals lift Thunder over Rio Americano

Sixth-seeded Rocklin nearly fell victim to a first-round upset in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II boys soccer playoffs Feb. 9, as the Thunder went into extra time with No. 11 Rio Americano. The Raiders had their chances, but it was the efforts of junior Luke Georgeson that kept the season alive for Rocklin. Georgeson scored twice in extra time, giving the Thunder a 4-2 victory and sending them through to the next round. Georgeson's first goal was a long strike from 25 yards out in the first half of extra time. He said he thought he had sealed the match there, but he had to score another just to be sure. In the final minutes, he delivered a strike that deflected off a defender and into the net. "I was really happy and confident that I won us the game when that first one went in," Georgeson said. "When the second goal went in, I knew it sealed the game for us. I was happy to win my first-ever playoff game." The Thunder (12-10-2) lost to No. 3 Merced-Golden Valley (19-2-2) 3-0 in the D-II semifinals Tuesday. Golden Valley will face No. 2 Elk Grove (10-4-7) on Thursday.
