1 incumbent leads, 1 trails in early election results

Ballots are still being processed in Placer County today as the Placer County Elections Office reported results from Election Day on Tuesday. Just shy of midnight Tuesday, the Placer County Elections office had counted 25 percent of registered voters ballots. Historically in presidential primaries in Placer County, turnout is typically 50-60 percent. Locally, voters chose their top candidate for three Placer County Board of Supervisor seats. The top two vote earners in each race will duke it out on the November ballots unless they receive 50 percent plus one vote in these election results. As of 11:57 p.m. March 5, the Placer County Elections office reported their results of ballots people cast at its 29 vote centers on Election Day. There are still ballots to tally, however, including ballots dropped off at local drop boxes and those mailed in with the appropriate post marking. The reason it takes days and weeks to settle election results is because elections staff is busy making sure returned ballots are eligible. "We are hoping to encourage voters to vote early," said Public Information Assistant Stacy Robinson. "The reason why it takes so many days after an election is because people consistently drop off their ballots or vote the day of the election." Robinson said there are two options for people who wish to see results earlier – vote early at a vote center or return your completed ballot to be scanned at a vote center on Election Day. Early results reveal some tight races, particularly for Loomis voters regarding Measure A passing with just 12 votes. Measure A would change the town clerk position from an elected position to an appointed position. For the Placer County Board of Supervisors District 3 seat, which represents Rocklin, Loomis and Penryn, Mike Murray leads the race with 4,543 votes (40.86 percent) with Anthony DeMattei in second with 3,309 votes (29.76 percent) and Dave Butler with 3,255 votes (29.27 percent). For the Board of Supervisors District 4 seat, which represents Granite Bay, Roseville and Loomis, incumbent Suzanne Jones leads with 7,233 votes (62.57 percent). Jeff Moss has the second-most votes with 2,777 votes (24.02 percent) and Karen Henson has 1,540 votes (13.32 percent). For the Board of Supervisors District 5 seat, which represents all of Auburn, a portion of Newcastle, Colfax and North Lake Tahoe, incumbent Cindy Gustafson is in the lead with 6,822 votes (48.89 percent). Wayne Nader has the second-most votes with 3,529 votes (25.29 percent). Incumbent Jim Holmes received 2,613 votes (18.73 percent) and Rick Chowdry received 974 votes (6.98 percent). Robinson said the Elections Office will update the count every Tuesday and Friday at the end of the business day before ballot results are officially certified April 5.
