Granite Bay Walmart store to close April 12

The Granite Bay Walmart at 4080 Douglas Blvd. is shutting its doors due to falling revenue after 12 years of serving the community, according to a statement from Walmart Communications Director Alicia Anger. The store will be closed to the public April 12, including the pharmacy. Pharmacy staff will work with customers until closure to transfer prescriptions to another local Walmart location. "We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our store in Granite Bay," Anger said. "We look forward to continuing to serve them at any of seven other locations across the area, on walmart.com and through delivery to their home or business." All associates employed at the Granite Bay Walmart are eligible for transfer to another store in the region. They will be paid through June 14. If they choose not to transfer before June 14, eligible employees will receive severance. "This decision is in no way a reflection of their hard work and customer service," said Anger. "We hope most of the 81 associates at this store will want to continue their careers with Walmart by transferring to another nearby store. As a company, we will still employ thousands of associates at 12 stores in Granite Bay, including the three Super Centers that are less than five miles from this location. We have invested in our associates, and we want to keep them in the Walmart family." No closures in the region are planned as of now, said Anger. The Douglas Blvd. Walmart opened Sept. 19, 2012, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, according to a previous Walmart press release. It created about 75 jobs upon opening. Walmart currently has 309 stores and Sam's Clubs in California with more than 100,000 employees, according to Anger. "Over the last few years, we have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in local communities through store remodels and the expansion of convenient services like online grocery pickup, grocery delivery and in-store pickup." Walmart stores, clubs and the Walmart Foundation contributed $6.4 million in cash and in-kind donations to state and local nonprofits in California during the 2023 fiscal year, according to Anger.
