Teen dies, passengers injured in Foresthill crash

A solo vehicle accident Tuesday morning in Foresthill resulted in the fatality of a juvenile male. The juvenile, identified only as a 16-year-old resident of Foresthill, was driving a 2020 Toyota RAV4 with four juvenile passengers around 1:10 a.m. on Foresthill Road, east of Mayflower Road. The California Highway Patrol reported the driver failed to negotiate the roadway curve and collided with a tree. CHP confirmed the passengers sustained major injuries and were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. The collision report also confirms the driver was wearing his seatbelt. Placer Union High School District confirmed the driver and three of the passengers were Foresthill High School students. "Such tragedies, especially when they involved young people, are very difficult to process," the district said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon. "Community Resources have been provided to our students and staff and following spring break, additional counselors, mental health specialists and chaplains will be on site to offer support for as long as needed." According to CHP, alcohol may have been a contributing factor. Officer Yvette Norman, public information officer for the Auburn area CHP office, confirmed Friday morning toxicology reports "can take months to get back." The cause remains under investigation.
