Gym snaps up rival

After nearly six months of negotiations, Snap Fitness has completed the acquisition of Peak Health and Fitness, both located on Francisco Drive in El Dorado Hills, on opposite sides of the street."We were really fighting to keep the Peak location because it's an absolute gem that has been sort of a bedrock of the community for 15 years," said Cynthia Breazeale, Snap co-owner with her husband, Bob. "It was a hard, hard struggle to maintain this community hot spot."Plans are to expand services to members, add employees and bring new equipment to the Peak location at 2222 Francisco Drive, Suite 290, across from the Safeway shopping center. Snap is at 2203 Francisco Drive, Suite 170. Breazeale said clinics also would be launched at the gyms.The former Peak facility is 8,300 square feet and has showers and day lockers; the original Snap quarters measure 3,000 square feet and have neither showers nor lockers. Both operations will have 24-hour access for members who also have access to all 1,200-plus Snap Fitness centers nationally. Local Snap members may use both El Dorado Hills facilities. The Peak gym will be converted to a Snap center over the next two months."We've been growing and we need to provide additional services for members, especially group fitness and child care," said Breazeale, with boot camps, yoga, Pilates, Zumba, cycle spin, gentle aerobics and cardio kick-boxing among them."We're thrilled to be the only original Silver Sneakers program for seniors, a membership paid by Medicare," she added.Betsy Wohl of El Dorado Hills and a member at Snap believes the meshing of the two gyms "will be a good thing. It will create a better environment for members of both gyms and it's going to take some of the (crowd) pressure off Snap while cleaning up Peak. Snap is run really well. Cynthia does a good job."There are no contracts and single membership is $39.95 a month, $29.95 for seniors.The original Snap Fitness has operated in El Dorado Hills for three years. Sellers of Peak are Chris and Tedd Sheffer, who owned the Peak club for five years.
