New mountain lion sightings reported in Roseville area recently

The Roseville Parks and Recreation Department reported in a social media post this past week that Roseville Animal Control has received a few calls recently reporting the sighting of a mountain lion. Several months ago, there had been a few similar reports of lion sightings in the central Roseville area, near where Interstate 80 intersects with the city. As a result, The California Department of Fish and Wildlife reportedly set cameras up in the area of Roseville Parkway and Taylor road in an effort to find evidence of a lion at that time, but there were no reports that evidence was found. As a precaution due to more recent reported sightings, Roseville officials are raising awareness in the community, just in case. "Encountering a mountain lion is a rare event, but this is not the first time mountain lions have been spotted in Roseville," said a post from Roseville Parks and Rec. "Please remember that mountain lion attacks are extremely rare - you are statistically 1,000 times more likely to be struck by lightning." Despite the very low odds of being attacked by a mountain lion, Roseville officials are urging the community to "remain vigilant" in terms of awareness of their surroundings, especially when out on remote trails. Officials also advise people to avoid walking or biking alone at dusk or dawn near areas where sightings were reported.
