Folsom Pioneers take one game from Redding Colts 45s

After going 30 innings without scoring a run and losing three straight games, the Folsom Pioneers got the bats going Sunday in a 13-9 win over the Redding Colt 45s.The Pioneers, 6-5 in league play and 18-11 overall, took only one game of the three-game series after losing the first two, 1-0 and 5-2.The Pioneers entered the weekend coming off a 2-0 loss to the Atwater Aviators and then lost to the Colt 45s 1-0 in 13 innings on Friday. "We ran into some good pitching, but we also had plenty of chances to score and couldn't do it," Folsom coach Brant Cummings said.The high point to the 1-0 loss to Redding was pitching. Starter Colton Bielaski allowed only three hits and struck out five in seven innings of work. Craig Broussard pitched the next five innings and also kept Redding off the scoreboard, despite being constantly in trouble."From the ninth through the 12th, Redding had the winning run on second or third base with less than two outs a couple times and we kept getting out of the jam," Cummings said. Mike Couch entered the game in the 13th inning and gave up a leadoff walk, which came back to haunt him. Later with two outs and the runner on second, a line drive to left field scored the winning run.Jeffery Bouleware had two of Folsom's six hits. Sam Montgomery was robbed of a grand slam in the third inning, when Redding's outfielder brought the ball back from over the wall to keep the game scoreless.On Saturday the Pioneers lost to Redding, 5-2. Trailing 2-0, Folsom finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning with a two-run hit by Anthony Bona. Redding took the lead in the bottom of the inning off Kyle Hassna and scored two more runs off Robert Wendzicki in the eight to win it.Sean Meehan pitched the first four innings and allowed two runs on two hits, while Kellen Simmons pitched two innings of no-run ball.Montgomery singled, scored a run and knocked in one, while Jeff Stephens also had a hit for the Pioneers.In Sunday's 13-9 win, Ted LeMasters, coming off a week in which he hit .440 with three home runs and 10 RBI and earned Player of the Week honors, had three hits and five RBI. Wendzicki also had three hits, including a two-run double in the ninth inning that tied the game. Mitchell Rowan had two hits, scored three times and knocked in two, while Bona also had a pair of hits."It was a see-saw game and we were down early 4-0," Cummings said. "The kids battled back and we got decent relief pitching at times."Trailing 9-7 in the ninth, Montgomery, Bona and Greg Ditmer all singled to load the bases for Wendzicki, who doubled to knock in two runs. The winning run came in on a balk before Rowan and Keith Jennette each drove in one run.The Pioneers play host to the Nevada Bighorns at noon on Saturday at Folsom High.
