Letters to the Editor: Support for Gustafson, and Nader, in race for Placer County District 5 Supervisor

Auburn Journal, I have known Wayne Nader, candidate for Placer County Supervisor for the 5th District, for well over 25 years. He has always demonstrated a caring heart for others. His commitment to protecting and defending the wonderful quality of life that we all enjoy in Placer County is unmatched. Whether on the N. Auburn Municipal Advisory Council, the local fire district board, the Placer County Audit Committee or the Placer County Planning Commission, he always put the community's priorities first. I am concerned there are outside influences that are having too much sway with the Board of Supervisors on critical decisions, particularly in land use and planning. Wayne's elected opponent has been lavishly taken care of by developers whose only interest is securing votes for their projects. Wayne has not taken developer money for his campaign and he says he never will. When he was on the Planning Commission, he was the one asking the tough questions. Often, he was the sole vote standing up against projects that had the potential for harmful implications to Placer residents. Wayne has been very outspoken on his concern for the concentration of high-density housing that Placer County is forcing on the Auburn area. We need Wayne's dedicated passion and commitment to protect our communities from outside influences. On Nov. 5, please join me in voting for a better direction for Placer County; vote for Wayne. Fred Petretti Auburn District 5 'incredibly lucky' to have Gustafson I have lived in Auburn for most my life and have seen our community grow into a thriving hub for arts, culture, history and outdoor adventure. In that time, no one at Placer County has ever supported our community as much as Placer County Supervisor Cindy Gustafson, and that's why I support her re-election on Nov. 5. Cindy seems to be at every event in town, supports many, many organizations and has been willing to work on some of the toughest issues that have faced our community in recent years, including the renovation of the State Theatre and recent dialogue around the Gold Country Fair and the airport district. Cindy's staff knows the Auburn area and they are incredibly responsive to our issues. District 5 is by far the largest district in Placer County, but Cindy is nonetheless more available to her constituent needs than any supervisor before her. We are incredibly lucky to have such a strong and committed leader as our county representative. Join me and re-elect Cindy Gustafson as District 5 Placer County Supervisor on Nov. 5. Benjamin Edwards Auburn Local incumbents avoid LWV forum We the people of the United States have the right and the responsibility to study our options before each election, and then to vote for whom we think will best represent our needs and the needs of our community. In order to clearly understand the priorities and policies of our elected representatives, we need the opportunity to compare the candidates. You would never buy the first car you saw; you would never marry the first person you dated. Unfortunately, two local candidates are denying their constituents the right to better understand where they stand on key issues. California Assemblyperson Joe Patterson and Congressman Kevin Kiley have both ignored multiple invitations from the nonpartisan League of Women Voters (LWV) to appear in a forum with their opponents. Are they afraid their respective priorities and policies will not stand up to those of the two women, Neva Parker and Jessica Morse, who are running against them? Incumbents have a strong edge in elections because they can easily get media coverage, and their mailings to constituents are paid by our tax dollars. Their names might be well known, but not necessarily their policies or their voting records. Take a few minutes to get to know who will represent you in the California Legislature and in the US House of Representatives. Invest in your future; Google their websites. Remember, it is important to vote for local candidates, not just the president. Your vote is priceless. Thank you, Susan Roughgarden, Auburn Warren would be 'great addition' to SPMUD board Dear Editor, I highly recommend Warren Jorgensen as a candidate for the South Placer Municipal Utility District Board of Directors Ward 5. As a 37-year resident of Placer County, he would be an excellent individual, bringing with him years of involvement in a variety of Rocklin community leadership positions. Warren's visionary qualities kept focus to the group during discussions. He always presented himself in a friendly professional manner. As a former commissioner with the Rocklin Community Recognition Commission, I appreciated his leadership skills. In his role as chairperson, Warren provided direction to our group, always prepared, researched nominees and led our meetings in a positive and productive way. He kept the meetings on task by creating an agenda prior to each meeting. I am positive Warren would make a great addition to this board.
