Folsom fireworks expected for Diwali Festival from Halloween through Nov. 2

The upcoming Indian festival of Diwali, or Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is traditionally celebrated with fireworks. The city of Folsom reminds residents the use of approved fireworks during the traditional Hindu festival may occur from Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 31-Nov. 2. The Diwali festival symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance." Diwali is celebrated annually in autumn (or spring in the southern hemisphere) during the Hindu month of Kartik. Specifically, it occurs on the darkest day of the month, or new moon. The Folsom Fire Department is asking that the public take the following precautions when using fireworks during the festival period: · Make sure the fireworks have the State Fire Marshal's "Safe and Sane" seal. · Ensure fireworks use is always under adult supervision. · Have a bucket of water, sand or garden hose available at the firing site. · Read all instructions before use. · Keep pets safe by keeping them indoors and providing a quiet, secure place during fireworks displays.
