Eagles fall to West Park, 32-12

Vista del Lago's varsity girls' flag football team saw its season come to an end in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday. The Eagles, seeded 15th, had a tough draw playing against the No. 2 seed in Division II, West Park. The Panthers (22-4) have been one of the top teams all season and it showed in its 32-12 victory. West Park worked up a 26-0 lead before the Eagles scored. "It came down to who made fewer mistakes and we had a few critical mistakes early on in potential scoring situations," Vista coach Dave Nazworth said. "We surged in the second half and had some good ball movement, but by then West Park had a big lead. We knew they were a good team and that we'd have to play our "A" game, but we just made too many mistakes at critical times." The Eagles managed two touchdowns, one thrown by and one scored by Amanda Nazworth and another scored by Kamira Stephens. Becca Lamos also threw a touchdown pass. The Eagles season ended with a 6-8 record. "Considering the fact that we had a much bigger team than last year, we had a lot of new players and lot of work to do to integrate those new players," Nazworth said. "We also had a junior varsity team for the first time. We had quite a few injuries affecting people who play on both sides of the ball. I think the fact that we were able to make the playoffs made it a successful season. I would have liked us to win a few more games, though. "In the playoffs we had a tough draw. I think the loss to Bella Vista hurt us in our seeding. If there's one game I'd like to have back it's that one."
