Auburn Veterans Day Parade to honor Cold War vets on Nov. 11

On Monday, Nov. 11, come rain or shine, Auburn will honor all its veterans with the greatest pancake breakfast, Veterans Day Parade and ceremony ever. Cold War veterans are being honored this year. Attending veterans will receive one of 500 beautiful commemorative medals recognizing the Cold War, displayed on a ribbon to wear proudly. The Auburn Jeep Club will serve a delicious pancake breakfast, free to veterans and $5 for others, at the top of Lincoln Way from 8 to 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to come out and help celebrate as the parade steps off sharply at 10:50 a.m., led by the Auburn Police Department and fire engines. The parade will halt briefly at 11 a.m. at Central Square for an opening ceremony, featuring the national anthem, a three-rifle volley by the Auburn Area Honor Guard, the playing of Taps, and "Amazing Grace" played by a bagpiper. The parade will then proceed to the Gold Country Fairgrounds' Placer Building, where there will be free pizza and drinks, followed by a ceremony at noon. The parade committee invites the community to participate in this year's community celebration, either as a spectator or participant. If you are a veteran who served anywhere in the world since 1945, you are invited to participate as a Grand Marshal leading the parade.
