Del Oro trap shooters take state championship

The Del Oro junior varsity trap team finished first and the Del Oro varsity squad took the third spot out of more than 400 student trap shooters at the California Scholastic Trap Shooting finals held in June in Kingsburg.The JV squads lead by Cody Hill, Brad Schlimmer, Dylan Jenson, Spenser Oseto, Lucas Boxwell, Phillip Waite, Landen Heimberg, Jared Catalano and Mason McAnally went undefeated the entire 2010 season. Also presenting strong scores were Alex Coon, Lacie Green, Michael Murphy and Alexus Munm The varsity squad finished third in the state. Solid efforts from Thomas Mitchell, Brad Laughridge, John Lewis, Larry Gibson and Katie Willis produced positive results and several individual victories during the season. Graduating seniors Leah Sainsbury and Jordan Spear also contributed to an outstanding season.Team members are looking forward to next year's competition, according to Fred Jenson, head coach."We are very anxious to get next year started," Jenson said. "This year's JV team was very deep with talent and we expect a competitive 2011 season against Woodcreek, Granite Bay, Roseville, Truckee, and other high schools for the No. 1 spot in the varsity division. The assistant coaching staff — Steve Mitchell, Paul Lewis, Buddy Jenson, David Oseto and Susan McQueen — is returning in 2011. The new faculty adviser is coach Mike Pahl.~ Staff report
