UPDATE: Lincoln teacher fired after TikTok livestream

The Western Placer Unified School District announced Wednesday an investigation is being conducted over a TikTok livestream where a Lincoln High School teacher allegedly attempts to talk to a 15-year-old girl on a website with sexual intentions. WPUSD said Thursday in an email with school parents the teacher was put on administrative leave while they work with the Lincoln Police Department to investigate. On Friday, the district announced he had been fired. While the school department has not identified the teacher in its public statements, the individual has been named by multiple students and parents as Kyle Morris. According to the LHS website and WPUSD Marketing Communications Officer Emma Oehler, Morris is the Media Arts Career and Technical Education teacher at LHS. He is also the girls flag football and boys lacrosse coach. TikTok livestream Morris was the target of TikTok streamer RobTheMaster's livestream. RobTheMaster, who has 1.1 million followers on TikTok, is known for catfishing predators and exposing them on livestreams. He later uploads as video content on social media. He finds his catfish subjects on Emerald Chat, an online website that allows people to anonymously connect. The website opened as an alternate for Omegle, a website that was taken down due to its reputation for inappropriate conduct between adults and children. RobTheMaster found the teacher, who shared his name is Kyle and is 31 years old, through Emerald Chat while livestreaming. The TikTok streamer catfished as a 15-year-old girl named "Lia." While posing as "Lia," he told the teacher his fake age and asked if it was OK to continue the conversation even though she was underage. Morris said that was OK and proceeded to tell the girl he was on the website due to being "bored and horny." "Lia" offered for them to play truth or dare in the chat, and dared him to send a picture. The teacher chose to continue communication on Snapchat, a social media app which is known for its one-on-one communication messages for going away after it sends. The app allows users to private message through text, photo or video call on the app. The two parties involved in the chat can choose to save the chat or it will disappear after 24 hours. They continued their game of truth or dare on Snapchat, where the two exchanged photos. The TikTok streamer used photos he found from Pinterest, a social media platform known for making moodboards online. In the video, the teacher saved Lia's photos to his camera roll. Lia asked him if he could delete the photos due to her not wanting her parents finding out. He agreed to do so. Lia then dared the teacher to get on a video call with the TikTok streamer to continue the game. During the call, the camera was off for RobTheMaster, who used a voice modifier to disguise their voice while they chatted. During a few rounds of truth, the teacher asked the 15-year-old girl what she was wearing. The teacher told the TikToker he had a wife and child. Lia dared the teacher to turn on his camera. When the camera turned on, it was shown that Morris was in an LHS classroom. Viewers could see the LHS fighting zebra logo in the background. He said he was hanging out at work after hours. After more communicating, he dared the girl to turn on her camera. She warned him she was going to be naked due to showering right before the call. "I️ literally just got out the shower cause I️ just got home from volleyball practice, I️ was sweaty so right now I'm literally naked. I'm not wearing anything, I️'ll be honest," Lia shared with the teacher. After short hesitation, he eventually said it was OK for her to turn on her camera. The Tiktoker turned on his camera to reveal he was catfishing Morris. The teacher replied "Oh, good lord. That's gross," and immediately hung up on the streamer. The livestream had more than 24,000 views in the moment it aired. The Lincoln News Messenger organized an interview with RobTheMaster, but he did not show up for an arranged Zoom call. Community reacts The video was sent around Lincoln High School students and parents immediately after airing. Carmella Quinn, a LHS freshman, said the video was being spread around on Snapchat stories. "That's crazy he is trying to talk to 15-year-old girls," Quinn shared. "It's super weird that he would do that. It's scary that he is a teacher." Amber Barmettler, an LHS parent, has three children that attend WPUSD schools. Barmettler was appalled after watching the video. "As a mother of three, when I drop my children off at school every day, my hope is that they are safe, learning and cared for by any adult they come in contact with," she shared. "To think that a teacher and coach, a person we as a community, are not only supposed to trust but obligated to on some level is in fact a sexual predator and danger to minors is absolutely disgusting and alarming at minimum." She shared the teacher's demeanor was the most alarming part of the video, in her opinion. "The most alarming part to me was even after he realized it was not a 15-year-old minor female he was conversing with, he never once had a look of fear, shock, apologetic," the LHS parent said. "He in fact had the opposite disposition I would expect and said, 'Oh, good lord' and, 'That's gross.' I really hope there is a full and complete investigation and any potential victims are not in fear to come forward and get the support that they need." A repeating problem This is not the first time a situation like this has happened at LHS. Emma Bartlett, a Lincoln alum, said she was groomed by her volleyball coach in 2014. Bartlett was 14 years old when she was put on the junior varsity team. Her coach was 28 years old at the time. Bartlett said the volleyball coach sent her messages on private social media, including topics of masturbation, appearances, relationships and his gambling addiction. "He asked me if I've ever masturbated. It was nasty. He compared my butt to other girls on the team's butts," she shared. "He told me he loved me all the time. He asked if I had a boyfriend in the future, would I still talk to him? He told me I looked hotter with straight hair over curled. He told me he had a gambling addiction." She described the coach as "flirtatious" and didn't think much of the close relationship at first. She assumed he was just friendly. He was a religious youth leader in the community. He was close with Bartlett's family. Bartlett said she understood at the time the behavior was strange but didn't know how to speak up in the moment. "I knew it was weird but I didn't know how to say anything about it because he's my coach. He's a leadership authority figure in my life and I don't want to upset him or ruffle feathers," she said. Eventually, she went to the principal, who acted quickly. The coach was fired and investigated by the police. A parent of a Lincoln student at the time said Lincoln High School did not notify families of the scandal. Bartlett said the LHS community was quick to attack her. Before the volleyball team found out about their coach being fired, it had been spread around the school by a teacher who was informed by administration. The teacher was searching to find out who got the volleyball coach fired. Another volleyball coach on the staff, an assistant, told other athletes Bartlett would not be played during the season to get back at her family for firing the head coach, and the volleyball coach's wife called her and blamed her for her husband's actions. Bartlett said she ended up transferring schools because of it. Ten years later, Bartlett says she was disgusted watching the current viral video. "He should absolutely be fired and not be allowed to work with kids in any capacity. He needs to be in therapy. He needs a lot of help," she said. When trying to reach out to Morris for comment, the Lincoln News Messenger discovered Morris recently deleted his social media and was unreachable. In a press release from WPUSD, Superintendent Kerry Callahan said the school is working quickly to investigate the situation. "We do not condone inappropriate behavior from any adult in our community and when serious concerns arise, we act swiftly," said Callahan. "Our standard protocol is to place the individual on leave, remove them from the school environment, and conduct a thorough investigation in collaboration with law enforcement."
