Roseville finishes great season as D-III runner-up

Roseville High's tennis team came one game away from winning the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III section championship. The Tigers battled top seed Rodriguez on Nov. 13 and lost 5-4. Roseville had great depth, as they won all three doubles matches, but lost five of the six singles matches and that was enough to give Rodriguez the win. The Tigers won at No. 1 singles, where Ella Fuchs lost the first set of her match 6-7 (4-7) before winning the next two 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, Claire Sheidenberger and Izzy Duink at No. 1 won 6-0, 6-2; Grace Phillips and Angela Martinez won at No. 2 6-3, 6-0, while Jordyn Haygood and Jill Hutchinson won at No. 3 6-4, 6-4. The closest singles match came at No. 2, where Evana Sharma battled hard but lost 5-7, 4-6. The other four losses came at No. 3-6 singles, as Khloe Nguyen lost 2-6, 0-6, Macy Clifford lost 1-6, 0-6, Anna Dickerson lost 2-6, 3-6 and Emma Riley lost 3-6, 2-6. Fuchs' win at No. 1 singles was her 31st of the season and along with her Sac-Joaquin Section Division II singles title, Fuchs finished her junior season with an undefeated record. "Ella is one of our captains and an incredible young lady," Roseville coach Josh Errecart said. "She is an extremely hard-working and talented player who works tirelessly on her game. She is not only a leader by example on the courts, but she is a constant source of support and encouragement for her teammates." The Tigers posted a record of 22-3. "Our team in general is a very fun group of student-athletes," Errecart said. "We have 18 seniors this season that virtually all picked up tennis in their first couple of years at Roseville High School. They are all gifted athletes who learned how to be gifted tennis players. They have raised Roseville High School tennis to places it's never been, going 41-7 over their junior and senior seasons, winning the 2024 Foothill Valley League title going undefeated, winning 2023 CIF SJS Section Championship last year, and returning there once again this year." Other top players included the No. 1 doubles team of Duink and Sheidenberger, who went undefeated with a 15-0 record. Sheidenberger compiled a win-loss record of 21-1 as the "play anywhere in the lineup" player.
