Falcon men, women soccer teams advance

Folsom Lake College's men's and women's soccer teams play in the Nor-Cal State semifinals on Tuesday, trying to advance to the Nor-Cal championships on Saturday. The men's team, 1-1 (4-2) winners over Taft on Saturday and the tournament's fourth seed, play Canada College from Redwood City on Tuesday at 7 p.m., the tournament's No. 5 seed at Folsom Lake College. The winner between these two teams will play either 17th seed Las Positas or eighth seed Merced. The women's team, the No. 2 seed, defeated Las Positas on Saturday, 4-0, and play Hartnell on Tuesday, the tournament's seventh seed. The game will be played at Folsom Lake College at 4 p.m. The winner will play Saturday against either No. 3 seed Sierra College or No. 6 seed Santa Rosa. On Saturday, the Falcon men outshot Taft, 12-1, but found themselves in a close, competitive game. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Folsom Lake managed to tie the game with a goal by Thualfikar Alsakat. The game remained tie at one after two overtime periods and went to PKs where the Falcons earned a 4-2 victory with goals from Octavio Mendoza, Sebastian Cabrera, Alex Medina and Aaron Valenzuela. Fernando Garcia was in goal for the Falcons. Tea Reyes scored three goals for the Falcon women in their 4-0 win over Las Positas. Saedra Joseph scored the team's fourth goal. Destin Armstrong, Tiayiza Arredondo and Madi Stroh added assists, while Linnea Sybersma pitched the shutout in goal.
