Woman dies in early morning house fire

A woman died in an early morning fire in Folsom on Friday, Nov. 29. According to the Folsom Fire Department, fire crews responded to a call about a home on fire on Briarcliff Drive near the intersection of Rugosa Drive at around 2:08 a.m. On arrival, firefighters encountered a single-family home with the rear part of the structure well involved in fire. Folsom Battalion Chief Chad Wilson told The Folsom Telegraph firefighters stopped the blaze fast but unfortunately they discovered an apparent casualty inside the house. "Crews rapidly suppressed the fire and in the course of a structural search, located one female victim who was removed from the home," said Wilson. "Lifesaving efforts were immediately started and the patient was transported to the ER by Folsom Fire Medics. Despite best efforts, the victim did not survive." A firefighter sustained a knee injury during the incident and was transported to a hospital. Folsom Fire was assisted by Sacramento Metropolitan and El Dorado Hills Fire crews. The cause is still under investigation.
