Folsom Light Rail 2-track project extended into December

Work on the Folsom Light Rail 15-minute service construction project has been extended yet again through December, authorities said. The city of Folsom announced last week that Sacramento Regional Transit District has postponed opening 15-minute service due to required testing and other issues into the December holiday season and perhaps beyond. The multi-million-dollar SacRT capital improvement project was most recently extended from October to November after several postponement issues last year. Construction began last January. Construction to add a passing track at the Glenn/Robert G. Holderness station is progressing well, SacRT announced. Once complete, the improvement will give the city 15-minute light rail service to all Folsom area stations, including Hazel, Iron Point, Glenn/Holderness and Historic Folsom. "However, due to the complexity of the project, and the need for additional testing and final approvals from the California Public Utilities Commission, the construction period has been extended into December," SacRT announced. Light Rail service disruptions between Iron Point and Historic Folsom stations will remain suspended during construction, staff said. Shuttle "bus bridges" will continue to operate between Iron Point and Historic Folsom stations. An extended weekend bus bridge shuttle between stations will be in place during the Dec. 14-15 weekend, between Cordova Town Center in Rancho Cordova and Historic Folsom station for track and train testing, authorities said.
