Kenneth James Cook 2/11/1929 - 12/15/2024

Ken Cook passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 15, 2024, after facing a long illness with courage and grace. Born in Portland, Oregon, Ken spent his early years in Oakland and Alameda, California. After graduating from Alameda High School, he worked alongside his father before being drafted into the U.S. Army. Sent to Korea, Ken served honorably and was wounded in battle. He spent months recovering in a hospital in Japan and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery. Following his military service, Ken moved to Auburn to attend Placer Junior College (now Sierra College). It was there that he met the love of his life, Terry (Theresa). The two were inseparable, building a remarkable life together and celebrating over 72 years of marriage. Ken was predeceased by his parents, William and Gertrude Cook; his brother, Bill; and his daughters, Colleen and Mary. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Terry; his children, Casey, Katie, and Carol; his grandchildren, Travis and Arla; and several great-grandchildren. Ken's life was defined by his passion for the outdoors. He cherished duck hunting in the fall, diving for abalone in the summer, and nurturing his vegetable garden. He was an enthusiastic fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Giants, rarely missing a game. In his earlier years, Ken was a dedicated member of his community, serving as President of the Auburn 20-30 Club and as a member of the Tahoe Club. He and Terry also shared a love of music, especially enjoying their trips to the Sacramento Jazz Festival. Professionally, Ken worked for many years with Norm Andregg before co-founding Auburn Engineers with two close friends, where he worked until his retirement. Ken's warmth, strength, and adventurous spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and the community he so greatly enriched. A Celebration of Life will be arranged at a later date.
