Floof Cotton Candy takes off - literally

Hannah Perry started a business in the kitchen of her home at the time the pandemic started in 2020. Today, the owner of Floof Cotton Candy, located at 1039 High St., Suite 10, is known in the area and the United States. The business just celebrated its one-year anniversary at its location. "This little kitchen became available, and we took advantage of the space," Perry said about the early days of starting her business in 2020. Floof Cotton Candy is known outside of Auburn, Placer County and the Sacramento region. The cotton-candy cakes and products are sold, and can be shipped, in all 50 states and Canada. One perk about the products is that they are gluten-free, along with nut-free, soy-free, dairy-free and egg-free. The cake can be placed in storage and not refrigerated. The product can last one to two weeks on a shelf. "We really cater to people with food allergies," Perry said. "A lot of people out there have food allergies." Perry and her employees, Niki Zeibak and Emma Fick, work their magic in making cotton candy and various products that are gluten-free. "They are mostly making the products … and will pack them," Perry said. Walk into Floof Cotton Candy, and there are products to the right and left across 1,500 square feet. That includes cotton cakes to unicorn bacon and T-shirts promoting the business. One popular product is the viral Rainbow Floof Cake for various celebrations ranging from birthdays to weddings to job promotions. Perry recalls the early days of making cotton candy cakes at the beginning of the pandemic. "I started during COVID where there weren't events yet, but I knew there would be eventually," Perry said. "I was making cotton candy products in the kitchen. I post it online and it went absolute viral." Floof Cotton Candy also caters for various events in the area. "We still do events in the community," Perry said. "You'll see us out there with our cart." The building includes a kitchen where Perry, Zeibak and Fick make their products. "Now we have this bigger kitchen where we can produce more," Perry said. People can also get fresh cones, like a stick wrapped with cotton candy. Perry said there is a following of Floof Cotton Candy, all helping people around the region who have food allergies. "We've really found an audience," Perry said. "It's a unique, different cake experience because it's a cake entirely out of cotton candy but slices just like a piece of cake." Perry noted her products usually go fast in states where shipments are made. "We ship a lot to Florida, a lot to New York, Alabama," Perry said. "We have a really wide reach of people finding us." Perry said she has a passion to start a cotton candy company. "It's just really magical food," Perry said. "I think it can bring a lot of joy." Part of Perry's statement can be found on her website.
