Applications open to sell Folsom fireworks for July 4

The Folsom Fire Department is now accepting applications from local nonprofit groups to sell state-approved fireworks during the Fourth of July season next summer, authorities announced last week. Eligible organizations, including youth sports leagues, school booster clubs and other Folsom-based civic groups can raise funds with a Safe & Sane fireworks stand in the city. The application window opened Jan. 31 and closes at noon Thursday, March 14, authorities said. The fire department will hold a lottery drawing of qualified applicants on April 3 at 3:30 p.m. Notices will be sent to winning applicants April 14, and a final permit application is due May 9 at noon, fire officials said. Mandatory booth operator safety training is scheduled for June 5, followed by booth inspections and permit issues June 27, the fire department said. The permitted fireworks sales window will be noon June 27 and runs through July 4 at 9 p.m., staff said. Fireworks are prohibited in the streets, driveways, walkways and parking lots between and among these locations: Folsom City Lions Park, Folsom City Zoo and Sanctuary, Rodeo Park, Folsom Library, Georgia Murray Building, Folsom Community Center and City Hall. Fireworks are also prohibited at Folsom Seniors and Arts Center, Folsom PD, Kemp Park, B.T. Collins Park, Lew Howard Park, Hinkle Creek Nature Area, Lembi Park, Willow Springs Reservoir, Livermore Park, Hazel McFarland Park, Philip C. Cohn Park, Catlin Park and city bike trails. It's also against the law to light fireworks on private property where the landowner posted a notice. Fireworks are allowed in the paved parking areas of Lembi Park on Riley Street.
