Man who worked as school counselor arrested for lewd acts

A Roseville man who worked as an elementary school counselor and youth group leader at a local church is in custody facing charges of lewd acts on a child. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said Wonyoung Kim was arrested Wednesday afternoon; this was the culmination of an investigation that began in September 2024. The Roseville Police Department began an investigation of Kim after a report that he engaged in an inappropriate text exchange with a minor while working as a youth group leader at Bayside Church in Roseville. Sacramento County Sheriff's Child Abuse Bureau Detectives also learned of a victim at Charles Pack Elementary School in Carmichael where Kim worked as a counselor. The Sheriff's Office said that victim was allegedly sexually assaulted by Kim while she was a student there. During their investigation, detectives learned of another victim at the school who was also allegedly sexually assaulted by Kim while she was a student. On Feb. 26, detectives served a search warrant on Kim at his Roseville home; he was taken into custody by the Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau and charged with eight counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 years old and two counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 years old by force. Kim is in custody at the Sacramento County Jail and is ineligible for bail. The Sheriff's Office said Kim worked as a school counselor but detectives learned he was also possibly employed at several schools in Southern California and a Sacramento Korean language and cultural school. Now, detectives are concerned there may be other victims, as Kim has had access to other minors through his positions at work. The Sheriff's Office said anyone who has potentially been a victim of Kim or any community members with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office at 916-874-5115 or 916-443-HELP.
